I call these spots camera magnets. You don’t choose to take a photo of them; it’s a spontaneous impulse. As I approach one of the most picturesque parts of this national park, I hear the waterfall take the 60-foot plunge into the pool below. I pause on the overlook to breathe in the palpably moist air that has given birth to moss on the sandstone.
When both my camera and I are filled with memories, I continue on the short loop trail around the creek that carved the impressive waterfall. The trail offers different views for each season. In winter, the falls become frozen in time. Months later, melting ice creates vernal pools that draw breeding salamanders.
